48 Hours in Clohars-Carnoët: Our Ideal Itinerary
Only have a weekend? That's already more than enough to fall in love with our corner of Brittany. Here's the itinerary we suggest to our guests to make the most of 48 hours in Clohars-Carnoët, between the forest of Carnoët, the Laïta estuary and the beaches of Le Pouldu.
Day 1 — Sea and art
Morning. After a quiet coffee on the terrace, head to Grands Sables beach at Le Pouldu for a first swim or a long walk on the sand. The morning light is superb and the beach still calm.
Lunch. Eat facing the sea at one of Le Pouldu's cafés, or put together a picnic with local produce to bring back to the garden.
Afternoon. Dive into history at the Maison-musée du Pouldu, in the footsteps of Gauguin and the Pont-Aven school (see our dedicated article). Then continue along a stretch of the customs officers' path (GR34) beside the Laïta estuary.
Evening. Head to the harbour of Doëlan for sunset between the two lighthouses, followed by a seafood dinner on the quay.
Day 2 — Forest and villages
Morning. Switch moods with the forest of Carnoët (Toulfoën), crossed by the Laïta. Shaded trails, ancient oaks and local legends make it the perfect spot for a cool walk. Enthusiasts can detour to the ruins of Saint-Maurice abbey and its waterside garden.
Lunch. Make for Quimperlé, fifteen minutes away. Have lunch in the lower town, then wander around the Sainte-Croix abbey church and the medieval lanes.
Afternoon. Depending on your mood, two options: back to the beach for a last swim (Le Kérou and its pools, or Bellangenêt for surfing), or a cultural escape to Pont-Aven, the painters' town.
Evening. For your last night, nothing beats a meal cooked "at home" in the studio's equipped kitchen, with produce from the market — and a final glass beneath the palm trees.
Going further
If you stay a few more days, push on to Concarneau and its Ville Close, or towards Lorient and the Sailing City. But the essential point fits in one sentence: in Clohars-Carnoët, you never need to go far to change scenery completely.
That's exactly what we love here, and what we wish for every one of our guests: to slow down, breathe, and savour this point of balance between land and sea.
